you ask yourself, what's it worth when boehner, pelosi, mcconnell, and reed all start talking nice to each other? it's worth 120 points on the dow. we're not far from the highs of the day. some hope we can get a modest rally. the vix has really collapsed going into the close. we're near the lows for the week on the vix. some of those closed end funds like pimco, high yield, phk also doing a little better today. finally, i'm going to mention home builders also a doing better on the day. back to you. >> okay. thank you very much, bob. well, thanksgiving is less than a week away, and the trend is growing for stores like walmart to be open for business that day. shoppers seem to love it, but workers, for obvious reasons, do not. >> yeah, some walmart workers are now pledging to walk out if they are forced to work on that holiday. walmart has already said they plan to open at 8:00 p.m. on thanksgiving. joining us now, a husband and wife, greg and charr lean fletcher, both employees of walmart. both scheduled to work different shifts on thanksgiving day. we welcome you. greg, you have said

harry reid and john boehner staying put. the president back in, what people would expect musical chairs. none will happen. it's the same people in the same positions and yesterday senate majority leader mitch mcconnell took to the floor and said they won't compromise. we had that interview with paul ryan with abc's jonathan karl saying it's not a mandate. they have a divided government so they'll continue with back and forth of head butting and the taxes should not be raised on wealthiest americans. are we headed just for the same old same old once again? >> i don't think so. first of all we are very pleased about nancy pelosi remaining as leader. she's done an extraordinary job in helping to increase our numbers here on the democratic side, in raising the money that was necessary for us to strengthen our hand here in the house and so she has done such a good job that we urged her to please stay on and that experience really does count. let me just say this, there is some posturing going on and i do think that this posturing

i think a lot of conservative policies wonks hope this is the sort of thing that speaker boehner will glom on to, and that obama will say look, it's not my preferred way to get 1 trillion from wealthy americans but it does get me there. it doesn't have a huge impact on the middle class and can avoid a big fight and gives up on the rate increases. i don't think obama is going to give up on the rate increases that easily because they have been so central to his--both of his political campaigns as president even though you know at the end of the day he would end up at the same revenue baseline that he's looking for. it would appear to his base he's supporters like a pretty big cave. >> eliot: i think you're right. after the strength of his commentary and since the election where increasing rates has become the mantra, the line in the sand that people expect him to toe and stay very strict on. anything that backs off from that would require extensive preparation and conversation with his base. i'm not sure he's preparing the base for that right now. added to what we're talking about right

can boehner think, look, got as much mandate as the president? >> i think he should absolutely think that, paul. the president made clear, didn't really run on the second term agenda and didn't talk about it much. i'll tell you what the mandate is right now, the mandate is that fiscal cliff, the bipartisan mandate. >> paul: to go off it is the mandate or not to go off. >> i think the stock market went off in the last week, people are saying pretty clearly you've got to do something about this now. i think they have a lot of leverage here, because if something isn't done, the economy is going to decline, maybe go into recession and i think employment can get as high as 10%. >> paul: if we had another recession it would have. >> if you're the president of the united states in a second term, you do not want a legacy, unemployment-- >> the lesson, don't give in at all, you won and if you go off a cliff, you blame them and they'll get the blame. >> he has no other term. i think obama's going to start thinking about his legacy and i predict he may thro
